Nanjing Postal Museum located in the scenic area of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum was open to public for free from July 24. This is the first postal museum themed the Republic of China (1912-1949) in the country.

Nanjing Postal Museum has a total floor area of around 1000 square meters, composed by front hall and back hall. Front hall is the main exhibition area with 150 square meters, exhibiting the development of postal industry during the Republican period. Back hall is office area for post association.

The post office in the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum was damaged in the war against the invasion of Japanese troops in 1937. This renovation fully follows its original look. For the damaged blue glazed tile, the old factory was found to reproduce a batch of new ones. The flag waving in front of its gate is modeled after its original look, for which purpose the working staff went to Taiwan. A unique octagonal pavilion, classic style green glazed roof, Chinese style rail with the pattern of plum blossom and curly grass and an antique-looking gate, all of which make the place oozing the flavor of Republican period.

This post office was originally built in 1934, serving to provide postal service to prominent officials and aristocrats living nearby during Republican period. It was listed as “Provincial protected relics of Jiangsu” in 2006. At the end of 2012, Nanjing Postal Bureau spent 18 million yuan (US$ 2.93 million) to repair the post office and transform it into a postal museum.
