Jiangsu completed 751 air-pollution-control key projects in the first half of 2015, accounting for 45.6 percent of the whole year plan of 1,646 projects in the environmental protection aspect, according to the report of Jiangsu provincial government on the implementation of government’s key tasks in the first half of 2015 issued by the General Office of Jiangsu Provincial Government on July 27.

The average fine particulate matter concentration (PM2.5) in Jiangsu in the first half of 2015 has been dropped by 15.7 percent from that in the same period of 2013, reaching the excellent-level target. A total of 570 environmental-protection projects with a completion time limit in five major industries, namely power generation, iron and steel, cement, flat glass and petrochemical industries, have been completed. In addition, five coal-fired thermal power plants have been shut down.

At the same time, the environmental-protection law enforcement has been strengthened, and the monitoring and early warning systems for heavily polluted weathers at provincial and city levels have been preliminarily established so as to achieve the 24-hour forecast of regional and urban air quality.
