The drills of China Railway Tenth Group Co Ltd began working in Funing, Jiangsu province, on Dec 7, unveiling the construction of Lianyungang-Yancheng Railway which has an overall length of 234 kilometers. The project is planned to be completed by May 31, 2017, and by then, two important economies – the Yangtze River Delta and the Bohai Rim, will be linked up.

Starting from the north of Ganyu county, Lianyungang city, and ending at the north of Yancheng, Lianyungang-Yancheng Railway focuses on passenger transport while allowing for freight transport, with a gross investment of 26 billion yuan ($4.28 billion), and a designed speed of 200 kilometers per hour. After it is put into operation, the railway journey from Lianyungang and Yancheng to Shanghai will be reduced by half, and that from the Shandong Peninsula to Shanghai will be greatly shortened.
