The construction of Shanghai-Taizhou-Nanjing intercity railway, another river-crossing railway following the Riverside Railway, has entered the preliminary stage.
This intercity railway, with a designed speed at 250 km/h, starts from Nanjing and ends in Shanghai, linking up Yizheng, Yangzhou, Jiangdu, Taizhou, Taixing, Jingjiang, Nantong and other places in its way, along which a span of 250 kilometers running across Jiangsu. Upon its completion, central Jiangsu will be integrated into Shanghai Metropolitan Circle.
Metropolitan circle, also known as city belt and city circle, refers to an integrated urban economy region with metropolitan as the core and surrounding cities as participants in labor division and cooperation. Shanghai Metropolitan Circle is a major city cluster in the nation, which will present broader prospects and more opportunities to central Jiangsu after its integration.
