The students of the British School of Nanjing were very proud to donate to Ms. Ann Ying, a member of the Nanjing Olympic Museum Preparation Team, a 6 metre long silk painting depicting the coming Nanjing Youth Olympics.

Ms Ying was invited to a special assembly to be presented with this painting which has been given by BSN to the Nanjing Olympic Museum and will be on placed there on permanent display.

This project was initiated following an invitation to participate in a children’s art exhibition centred on the theme, Youth Olympics, 2014. The students imagined what the founder of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Zhu Yuan Zhang would see if he woke up during the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics. They reasoned that he would recognise many of the ancient monuments and would be very impressed by the modern developments of Nanjing and marvel at how they integrate seamlessly in today’s Nanjing.

The pictures they devised were painted using some classical Chinese painting techniques and all students took part. This work of art took three weeks to complete with a week for planning, a week for drafting and a final week for the colouring of the silk painting and shows the many aspects of old and new Nanjing existing together.

The students are very proud of what has been produced and looking forward to the upcoming 2014 Youth Olympics. They are so excited and committed to supporting and promoting the many virtues of the Olympic spirit.
