Subah, an English patient who was diagnosed that he can never walk again, began his first recovery walk with the help from medical staff of Zhongshan Rehabilitation Branch of Jiangsu Province Hospital on the morning of July 14.

Mr. Subah Amini, 31, is from Britain. He fell from the ninth floor in 2014 due to a fire accident and that resulted the paralysis of his lower limbs. His British doctor told him that “in the future he may no longer be able to walk, nor can he control the urine.” Subah adjusted his attitude and tried rehabilitation training. Gradually, he can stand up with the help of crutches, but still he cannot walk. Subah’s cousin, who is studying in Nanjing, learned that Jiangsu Province Hospital’s Rehabilitation Medical Center has rich experience in the rehabilitation of spinal cord injury. He suggested that Subah come to Nanjing for treatment.

Subah came to Nanjing on June 5 this year. At that time his left leg was not able to move. After nearly seven weeks of physical therapy and comprehensive training, Subah took the first several steps with elbow crutches. Professor Li Jianan of the hospital said they are confident that after a year, Subah can walk indoors independently and if everything goes well, Subah can walk on the street by himself in two years.
