News came from relevant department of Jiangsu provincial government that Jiangsu will allocate 500 million yuan (US$78.25 million) from the provincial budget every year to subsidize Nanjing river passages for free access.
According to an informant, in addition to the 500 million yuan provincial subsidy, Nanjing will provide auxiliary subsidies too. The traffic authority introduced that the river tunnel on Weisan Road that’s currently under construction will be completed before year end. When it’s put into use, there will be six river passages in Nanjing, namely the Yangtze River Bridge, No2, No3 and No4 bridges, and the two tunnels on Weiqi Road and Weisan Road. Only Yangtze River Bridge provides free access at the moment.
The Yangtze River No 5 Bridge that will start construction early next year has been confirmed to provide free access when completed.
