The Phase I project of Nanjing Metro Line S8, or the Ningtian Intercity Rail Line, will be put into test operation on Aug 1, which is also the third new subway line opened in Nanjing after July 1, following Line 10 and the Airport Line.
The Metro Line S8 Phase I is an important supportive project for the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Starting from Taishanxin Village to the Jinniu Lake, Line S8 is about 45.2km long with 17 stations along the route. The color of the train of Line S8 is orange, and the train is therefore nicknamed “little orange”.
In the early stage, there will be eight trains on Line S8 for trail operation, with one train as the backup. The operation time is from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. Like other subway lines in Nanjing, the fare of Line S8 is also metered and the maximum is 7 yuan (US$1.13).
