The Intermediate People’s Court of Nanjing held a trial on Sept 23 investigating into a violent robbery and murder case in a cigarette and wine shop at Pukou District of Nanjing, Jiangsu province 20 years ago.

A cigarette and wine shop near the turning section of Taishan Street at Nanjing’s Pukou District was robbed on the early morning of March 1, 1994, and Liu Lixia (alias), the mother of the shop owner, was killed. The case had been suspended and unsolved due to lack of adequate clues until May 2013 when Xuzhou police cracked a burglary case and the feature of a crime suspect surnamed Huang in the burglary case was found similar to that of the crime suspect of the robbery and murder case that the police got at the scene.

After repeated questioning, Huang finally confessed his robbery crime 20 years ago and gave up his two partners surnamed Tang and Wen as well. In 1994, Wen, 17, Huang and Tang, both 20, came to Nanjing from Xuzhou but failed to find a suitable job. Then they robbed the shop for travelling expenses home and caused the death of Liu Lixia (alias). Wen, the youngest among the suspects and now a boss owning property of several millions from doing business in southern China, said he is willing to meet the claim of compensation by the families of the dead.
