Nanjing University of the Arts displayed 406 exquisite works of art in different periods for its forthcoming centenary anniversary last November in the National Art Museum of China. This exhibition was hailed as an epitome of China’s modern and contemporary art development and drew attention of domestic and overseas experts and scholars as well as art collectors.

Now, the National Art Museum of China decided to collect 13 of the exhibits and one oil painting of Professor Chen Shining. The 13 works include Zhang Zhongze’s sketch, The Steel Mill, Bi Yisheng’s oil painting, Sunlight on Xingtan, and Zhang Liansheng’s oil painting, Venice. As the most prestigious art gallery in China, the National Art Museum has strict collection standard. Its collection of the 14 works means that those works are already part of China’s modern and contemporary art development. This move not only shows their aesthetic value, but also demonstrates once again the remarkable achievements Nanjing University of Arts has made in the cultivation of artists and in China’s modern and contemporary art development.
