A photo of a chengguan (urban management official) wearing Google Project Glass posted on the official Weibo account of the Chengguan Squad of Tianning District of Changzhou city has drawn attention of many people.

Jiang Yifan, who graduated from college in 2011 and then became a chengguan after passing the civil service exams, is the owner of the glasses. Jiang hit on the idea of buying a Google Project Glass when he saw media reporters wearing it during the “two sessions” (the NPC and the CPPCC) this year. He bought the glasses with over 10,000 yuan ($1,605) through purchasing agents on Internet early this month.

“Videos taken in the process of law enforcement are important evidences,” said Jiang. While chengguan teams in Changzhou have been largely equipped with DV, using this kind of devices sometimes worsen the conflict between law-executor and the object of law enforcement due to its big size.

“Using Google Project Glass is much better, since it is small and frees your hands when you enforce the law. Meanwhile, the videos captured by Google Project Glass are more complete and real,” said Jiang. In case of emergency, people tend to unconsciously turn the their eyes to the scene, “using Google Project Glass is more flexible in that it can turn with the head of its wearer and record what the wearer sees, while taking a DV will hinder you from capturing every scene,” Jiang said.
