Largest oil tanker in China sets sail for trial run

A 320, 000-ton very large crude carrier (VLCC) successfully launched its trial sail on Jan 12.

This is the second 320,000-ton VLCC built for the Greek Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd by the New Era Shipbuilding Company in Jingjiang of Jiangsu province.

Measuring 333 meters long, 60 meters wide, and 30.5 meters in moulded depth, the ship has a draft forward of 7.1 meters and draft aft of 7.6 meters with a load of approximately 320,000 tons and a maximum power of 9,800 kilowatts for its main engine. It is scheduled to be delivered on Feb 6.

The Jiangsu New Era Shipbuilding Company signed a contract with the Greek ship owner, the Dynacom Company, to build four 320-kiloton VLCC back on June 28, 2010. The total contracted value reached US$380 million.
