The city of Kunshan in Jiangsu province, along with Beijing and Wuhan, became one of the second batch of pilot cities for cross-Straits cold-chain logistics cooperation, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Kunshan is a popular destination for logistics companies and investments, as many large cold-chain logistics companies have settled in the city, which will facilitate cross-Straits logistics cooperation.

The pilot cities will focus on planning the development of cold chain logistics, upgrading logistics infrastructures, improving technology and management and creating logistics standards, in an attempt to integrate the logistics resources of the mainland and Taiwan, strengthen cooperation and promote the cold chain logistics industry.

Since the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) was signed between the mainland and Taiwan in 2010, cross-Straits industrial cooperation has been enhanced, covering five industries – LED lighting, wireless city, cold-chain logistics, TFT-LCD and auto vehicles. Cold-chain logistics is the key industry of cross-Straits cooperation.

In 2011, Tianjin and Xiamen were designated as the first two pilot cities for cross-Straits cold-chain logistics cooperation, with 34 letters of intent for cooperation signed within three years.
