A total of 870 million yuan (US$143 million) has been spent on anti-haze products by China’s online shoppers in 2013, according to statistics released on Dec 17. The data also said that Jiangsu took over Beijing as China’s No 1 consumer of anti-haze commodities.

In 2013, the number of people that bought masks increased by 181 percent compared with that of 2012 and the number of air cleaner buyers went up by 131 percent. Haze has also become a popular search keyword online which has changed not only numbers, but also lifestyle. Many netizens said that they wear masks when going out and prefer indoor exercise while the air cleaner is always working at home.
