Jiangsu’s foreign-trade stands second for ten consecutive years

Nanjing Customs said at a press conference on Feb 4 that in spite of the global economic downturn, the import and export value of the provincial foreign trade in 2012 reached US$548.19 billion, up by 1.6% year on year, accounting for one seventh of the national total. Foreign trade in Jiangsu ranks second nationwide for the ten consecutive year.

The exports are mainly mechanical and electrical products, textile and apparel, footwear, and other labour intensive products while products most imported are iron ores, chemicals, and agricultural products.

Private enterprises have made an outstanding performance in foreign trade in 2012. According to the statistics of Nanjing Customs, the import and export value of private enterprises in the province was US$145.5 billion, accounting for 26.5% of the provincial total in 2012.
