Lianyungang in Jiangsu province issued the three-year implementation plan of coastal development transportation construction on Mar 17, which states that the new Lianyungang airport will start construction in 2015.

The new Lianyungang airport is the third largest international airport planned in the “two hubs and one large” (two hub airports and one large airport) program of Jiangsu, second only to Nanjing Lukou International Airport and Sunan Shuofang International Airport, oriented to be a regional international airport.

According to the plan, the new Lianyungang airport will cover about 5,800 mu (386.67 hectares) and the recently planned flight area grade is 4D, with a planned total investment of 3.2 billion yuan (US$0.52 billion).
