The results of 2014 Survey on Reading Condition of Jiangsu Residents was made public on Apr 21 with the approaching of World Reading Day.

The result shows that the residents’ comprehensive reading rate in Jiangsu in 2014 is 86.9%, 4.7% higher than that of 2013 (82.2%) and 8.3% higher than the national average.

There is another important figure in this survey called “resident reading index” which comprehensively reflects personal reading condition and the service condition of government public reading.

In 2014, the general reading index of Jiangsu’s residents was 73.19%, among which, the personal reading index was 77.86% and the service index of public reading was 68.87%, 4.57% and 4.83% higher than last year respectively.

The data also show that Jiangsu residents prefer the emerging digital media including PC, mobile phones, tablets and e-book readers. In 2014, the Internet access rate of Jiangsu residents was 70%. The residents’ main Internet activities focus on information acquisition and entertainment. 74.7% netizens mainly read news online.
