A large wind turbine with an installed capacity of 2.5 MW was transported to the Demonstration Park of New Energy Desalination Industry in Dafeng Harbor Economic Development Zone in Jiangsu province on Nov 17, signaling that the first desalination project will be completed in Jiangsu before long. The installation of the turbine will be finished within 10 days and the desalination equipments are under construction. The project is expected to come into service in next month.

Desalination refers to process of removing salt from sea water to make it drinkable. The project will produce 10,000 tons of desalinated water every day after being put into operation, for which the daily power consumption of 40,000 KW will come from wind turbine. The project will be put into operation in two phases, with 5,000 tons of desalination capacity being put into operation at the end of this year and the end of next year respectively. Some of the desalinated water will be used as high-end drinking water with registered trademarks, and another part of processed water will be used to supply Dafeng Harbor and docked vessels. And later, the plant will provide production water for the surrounding industrial enterprises. If it goes well after being put into operation, the Dafeng Desalination Project will serve as a model to be promoted to other regions.
