The Economic Information Institute of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JAAS) developed a prevention and control system that uses unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and airships to identify insects and spray pesticides on farmlands.

This technology is expected to be applied to orchards and small-scale crop fields to achieve precise unmanned pest prevention and control. “The identification rate can reach up to about 85-90 percent, and overdose can also be avoided,” said Cao Hongxin, the head of the institute.

It is learned that each crop disease has its unique spectrum. Currently, the experts of this institute have established a spectrum database targeting shot hole disease of peach leaves, cercosporella albomaculans of rape and cabbage caterpillars on leaf vegetables.
