The average broadband download speed in Jiangsu province in the 4th quarter of 2014 reached 4.83Mbps, allowing Jiangsu to rank the 4th place in China, according to the Report on the Broadband Speed Situation in China.

The report was issued by the Broadband Development Alliance under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China. Shanghai, Beijing and Sichuan ranked the top three places respectively.

The global average network speed in the 4th quarter of 2014 was 4.5Mbps, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent, and that in the Chinese mainland 3.4Mbps, a year-on-year increase of 2.1 percent, allowing China to rank the 82nd place in the world, according to the latest Internet development report of Akamai, a well-known network company in the United States.

It can be found from the data issued by Akamai that the network speed of Jiangsu province is at the same level as that of Chile, Mexico and Argentina, namely a little higher than that of global average level.
