Wuxi Zoo started the annual autumn body check for its animals on Oct 20, including hair color, mental status, sense organs, age structure and fertility.
The body check is to make sure of the animals’ physical fitness and discover and treat any disease as early as possible, so as to ensure their health and happiness.
To monitor the body check of Xi Xi, a nine-year-old star elephant of the zoo, in a real-time manner, her keeper Master Chen worked with the vet to arrange performances for Xi Xi in order to measure her height, waist, foot length and nose length and check her mouth and body temperature. The children at the zoo had a better idea about this big animal.
The vets also conducted body check on other animals in the zoo. According to the type of animal and season, the vets will inject different vaccines and expel parasite for them, and also check their eyes, mouth and nose.
