Hu Hansheng, an old man who should have lived an easy and comfortable life after his retirement, set up a stall to repair bicycles and donated the money he earned for charity for 14 years.

During the 14 years, the money he earned amounted to 100 thousand-odd yuan which is all donated for charity use, according to the old man. After his retirement, Hu opened his stall on the old Tangzha Street of Gangzha District, Nantong of Jiangsu province in 1999. He saved more than 18,000 yuan (US$ 2,908) in first three years and helped build a 200-meter concrete road for local villagers. From then on, he began his 10-year-repairing life for charity.

Hu charged 1 yuan for each repairing and donated it all once he saved up 10,000 yuan. There is a rule in Hu’s family: No one is allowed to spend the money earned from bicycle repairing, which has a big use. In order to encourage more people to do good deeds, the old man founded a loving mutual association in Longtan Village. More than 40 million yuan (US$ 64,640) has been collected from all walks of society.

The old man passed away on April 12. Knowing that, many people spontaneously came to his house to express their condolences for him.
