Nanjing has aimed to complete the overhaul of the Confucius Temple scenic area before the Spring Festival. This is the first major repair after the Confucius Temple was reconstructed 30 years ago.
The overhaul mainly focuses on Gongyuan Street, which is home to the cream of the Confucius Temple scenic spot, with typical sceneries lined on the 800-plus-meter street.
After the overhaul, the scenic spot will be featured by Anhui-style architecture. Unbecoming signage and decorations will be removed. Architectural elements and cultural symbols typical of the Confucius Temple will be added to show the original style 30 years ago. Besides, modern architectural elements will be blended to exhibit the classic architecture by means of modern design style and fashionable decorations.
Furthermore, time-honored food brands will replace Western fast food outlets in the area. Yishun Tea House, one of the ten famous tea houses in the history of the Confucius Temple, is expected to see its old time glory. The area of Qifangge Restaurant Islamic Restaurant, a century-old eatery making Muslim snacks, will be extended by 600 square meters. Other time-honored brands will also be open again. Two rooftop tea houses will be built in the western section of Gongyuan Street. Then visitors will have a panoramic view of Gongyuan Street while drinking tea.
