Scout Bassett (Chinese name Zhu Fuzhi), an athlete who took part in the women’s long jump and 100-meter dash at Rio Paralympic Games, came to Nanjing to search for her relatives on Sep 26.

Probably because of her disability in the right leg, Bassett was abandoned at Maigao Bridge in January 1990 when she was two years old. She was then sent to Nanjing Children Welfare Home, where she lived for 5 years, till she was adopted by her American foster parents at the age of seven.

Bassett gave a big hug to the two female child-care workers who took care of her in those days, and kept saying “thank you”, fighting back the tears.

She was back in Nanjing to see the trace of her life here, express thanks to the child-care workers who took care of her, and look for her biological parents. She also brought gifts to the children at the welfare home, and donated some sports apparatuses such as sports rope and football.
