4G network to cover Jiangsu by end of June

Nanjing, Suzhou and Wuxi have launched the trial operation of fourth-generation (4G) network, which will be widely used in the whole province in late June this year, six months ahead of national plan, according to a news conference of Jiangsu provincial government on Jan 9.

The news conference also issued the Jiangsu Province’s Opinions on the Implementation of Boosting Information Consumption.

According to the document, Jiangsu’s information consumption volume is expected to reach 320 billion yuan (US$52.87 billion) by 2015, of which 210 billion yuan (US$34.7 billion) will be spent on new-type online information, an average annual growth of over 30 percent.

E-commerce sales will hit 2 trillion yuan (US$330.4 billion), growing at an annual pace of roughly 40 percent. About 280 billion yuan (US$46.26 billion) will be spent on online shopping.

Jiangsu will try to provide more diversified information products and services for production, life and management, and fuel innovation, make market competition more transparent and build a sound market environment for information consumption.

The subscription of fixed broadband internet and mobile internet will reach 90 percent and 80 percent respectively in Jiangsu’s urban households by 2015. The capacities of broadband access to urban and rural families will be upgraded to 100Mbps and 20Mbps respectively.

During the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), China’s three largest telecom operators and China Radio, TV and Internet Company, a newly founded state-level telecom operator, will invest more than 135 billion yuan (US$22.3 billion) in the communications infrastructure in Jiangsu.
