24-hour libraries to open in Nanjing’s Jiangning district

There will be 24-hour self-service libraries in 10 communities of Jiangning district in Nanjing by the end of this year, according to Chen Ying, curator of Jiangning District Library.

Jiangning district is scheduled to invest a total of 3.90 million yuan (US$0.63 million) to build 10 24-hour self-service libraries, Chen Ying introduced. The tendering work for the libraries’ construction has been completed, and it is estimated that these libraries will be in service by the end of this year, Chen continued. By that time, all residents can swipe their entrance cards to enter these libraries with tables and chairs to borrow and read books in a self-service way, and they can also obtain reader’s cards and download e-books from self-service machines at these libraries, Chen added.

In addition, readers at 200 libraries in villages (communities) of Jiangning district can share books with Jiangning District Library by using their reader’s cards.
