A 10-meter-high tree on the Central Road of Nanjing suddenly fell down at about 17:00 on Oct 14 and struck a passing taxi.
Luckily, no casualty was reported. Although personnel from relevant forestry and park department quickly cleared the fallen tree, some residents had a lingering fear.
According to Nanjing Forestry and Park Bureau, the tree’s fall is possibly caused by the soft earth which was soaked by recent rainfalls. As no reason was found for the fallen poplar itself with a straight trunk and dense branches and leaves in an examination afterwards, its falling was really an accidental incident.
However, Nanjing Forestry and Park Bureau expressed the forestry and park departments in Nanjing will check all the roadside trees in Nanjing to find out and eliminate trees with serious diseases and pests. Moreover, a health file will be set up for each tree to ensure people’s safe travel.
