This day, 7 November, in 1944, Patrick J. Hurley, U.S. presidential envoy and U.S. Ambassador designate to China, flew to Yan’an, where he was greeted by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other CCP leaders. Talks later that day were of cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, with Hurley hoping that the two would unite to fight against Japan.
