This day, 4 August, 2003, chemical warfare agents found to be mustard gas leaked from five drums that were uncovered at a construction site in Qiqihar City of Heilongjiang Province. 1 person died of multiple organ failure as a result and 44 suffered from cutaneous blisters and ocular lesions. Police later found additional drums nearby, all of which had been abandoned by the Japanese army during World War II.
