On this Day in Chinese History; 31 August

This day, 31 August, in 2000, the closing ceremony of the Millennium Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders was held in New York. Therein, Master Shenghui, vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, delivered a prayer for peace, while the Conference as a whole iterated that true peace can only be achieved by dealing with cultural differences in a spirit of mutual respect and tolerance.
