On this Day in Chinese History; 22 September

This day, 22 September, in 1990, China hosted the Asian Games for the first time, as also the first occasion on which China did so for a comprehensive international sports competition. Under the theme of “Unity, Friendship and Progress”, a total of 37 Asian countries and regions participated in the Games, in which Chinese athletes won a total of 183 gold, 107 silver and 51 bronze medals.
