This day, 2 September, in 1992, American President Bush approved the sale of 150 F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan on the grounds of campaigning and regardless of the overall situation in Sino-U.S. Relations, a move directly violating and undermining commitments made in the 17 August, 1982, communiqué between China and the United States.
