This day, 2 January, 1952, Luo Shengjiao, a soldier of the 47th Army of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army, died heroically to rescue a North Korean teenager. Supreme Leader Kim Il Sung of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea would later personally write an inscription on Luo’s monument, reading, “The internationalist spirit of martyr Luo Shengjiao will forever coexist with the Korean people”.
