This day, 10 September, in 1960, President Ahmed Sékou Touré of the Republic of Guinea paid an official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President, Liu Shaoqi, as the first African head of state to do so. Touré met with Mao Zedong, and held talks with Liu and Zhou Enlai, respectively, in which he thanked China for its valuable support to Guinea and the African national liberation movement.
