This day, 10 August, in 1911, the Oing Navy cruiser, “Haiqi”, visited New York Harbour in the United States. The Haiqi had set sail from its Shanghai anchorage, passing through the Strait of Malacca, Gulf of Aden, Suez Canal, Strait of Gibraltar and the English Channel, to arrive at the Portsmouth Naval Port to participate in the coronation ceremony of the British King. From New York, the Haiqi sailed to Cuba, realising the first long-distance voyage of the Chinese Navy in modern times.
