Just as Beijing is seeing increased numbers of Covid cases, so our own local authorities on a provincial level have issued emergency notices for epidemic prevention in a number of cities across Jiangsu, serving as a reminder for the public’s ongoing vigilance.

As of the morning of 14 June, in order to effectively consolidate hard-earned epidemic prevention and control achievements, the cities of Suzhou, Wuxi, Huai’an and Taizhou successively issued the related reminders, reported The Masses Magazine.

The four cities require citizens to undertake good personal protection and advise everyone to continue to pay attention to the trajectory of confirmed cases issued by Beijing. It is also recommended to minimise going out and avoid areas with newly confirmed cases.

In addition, the public is reminded that anyone who has recently traveled to medium and high-risk areas should follow all relevant isolation, medical observation and other prevention and control measures.

They should also take the initiative to report to their residential community and actively cooperate with the implementation of centralised isolation medical observation, including nucleic acid sampling.

Wuxi and Taizhou in particular are also areas with large agricultural sectors. In view of the recent confirmed cases and asymptomatic infections in Beijing, which are more concentrated in farmers’ markets, Wuxi and Taizhou have issued targeted reminders, specifically mandating the separate storing of raw and cooked ingredients.

Those involved in agriculture, particularly farmers and wholesale or wet markets, are reminded to strictly request certificates and check purchases of edible products, while preventing the inflow of food from unknown sources.

While Nanjing is not included in the list of cities deemed to now have a higher risk level, there is never a time for complacency. It appears only prudent that Nanjingers adopt many of the practices newly reintroduced elsewhere in Jiangsu to avoid any reintroduction of measures that restricted our movements for 2 months and ensure our continued freedoms.

The Nanjinger also suggests that, for the time being, raw meats, sushi and salads be off the menu.

Nanjing saw only 93 cases of Covid and zero fatalities when the pneumonia emerged earlier this year. There can be no question that both government and the general public are united in wishing to keep it that way.
