Anyone who lives or works anywhere near Nanjing’s Daming Lu will know that this is where, for many many years, the elevated section of Yingtian Da Jie came to an abrupt end. That is no longer the case.

In what is another example of superb Chinese urban planning and road building, downtown Nanjing has now been directly linked with the city of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province.

Getting down to the specifics, the eastern end of Yingtian Da Jie has been extended into what becomes the Neihuan Highway that ends at the inner ring road’s junction with the Ninghang (Nanjing-Hangzhou) Highway.

Along the way, the new road, eight lanes wide in places, passes through the Dajiaochang Tunnel, named after Nanjing’s former military (and civilian too until the opening of Lukou International) airport that is located nearby.

The new road knocks a good 10 minutes or more off the journey time needed to access Nanjing’s inner ring road, and could be an option for getting to Nanjing South Railway Station at peak times when Yuhua Nan Lu becomes gridlock.
