The countdown is on to this year’s Nanjing Tech Week, from 22-26 June. While the sophomore event is once again Nanjing’s chance to set shining its bright stars of innovation, a large-scale undertaking of this kind this year requires creative solutions to unique challenges.

Epidemic prevention is still much to the forefront of everything Nanjing does, while temporary travel restrictions make difficult a large international presence at this year’s event. With the theme of “Clouds Gathering at the World’s Summit” (云聚全球峰) , the second Nanjing Tech Week has turned a negative into a positive. If Covid-19 moved the world online, Nanjing Tech Week is putting it among the clouds.

Organisers of what will be another extravaganza, if last year is anything to go by, are placing an emphasis on the openness of the 5 days of innovation.

Through open cooperation, open innovation and open sharing, it is hoped to promote the Nanjing investment environment to both domestic and foreign investors, attract partners from home and abroad to come to Nanjing for innovation and entrepreneurship, further enhance Nanjing’s openness for cooperation and enhance the city’s innovation influence.

A 5 June press conference also introduced the international segment of this year’s Nanjing Tech Week, in which the key pillars shall be Guest-to-Guest Connections, T20 Innovation Cooperation, and Overseas Partner Innovation Dialogue.

T20 is the term coined to collectively describe 20 overseas countries or regions which Nanjing Tech Week deems innovators.

According to Liu Hongwen, who heads up this international arm of the Innovation Week Organising Committee, we can expect video speeches from high-level officials of guest countries, a T20-Nanjing cooperation achievement exposition, a T20 Innovation City Governance Forum and much more.

“We hope that each event can be closely integrated with the development advantages of Nanjing and the characteristics of each sector. While highlighting the in-depth participation of talent, enterprises and institutions, they also illustrate the mutual support and deep integration of both innovative city construction and the development of landmark industries”, said Liu. “A series of activities will create a window to tell the world about the urban development concept and practical actions of Nanjing, with the aim of supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, so as to attract domestic and foreign innovation resources to gather in Nanjing”, reported The Paper.

The online global nature of the event is being billed as an “International Circle of Friends” in a clear reference to WeChat’s ubiquitous “Moments” feature.

The 1st Nanjing Tech Week, which opened on 26 June last year, brought together a large number of technologies, experts, entrepreneurial projects and technology products, said a press release from the Organising Committee of Nanjing Tech Week dated 28 June, 2019.
