The Nanjing local economy has received a ¥2.7 billion shot in the arm with the announcement that Nanjing Puzhen Rail Transport has won three new contracts to build metro train sets for three cities in the eastern China region.
In the first, more than 20 sets of trains shall be produced for the Metro Line 1 Additional Procurement Project in the city of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province. The ¥720 million order shall see deliveries take place from sometime next year thru March 2021, in time for the 2022 Asian Games, for which Hangzhou is host city.
A further order for the Wuxi Metro system has also been placed, worth ¥890 million, that shall see 28 six-carriage train sets produced. The sets shall be employed on the Jiangsu city’s Line 3 that is due to open in 2020. Line 1 and 2 of the Wuxi Metro system both opened in 2014.
Finally, also here in Jiangsu, the northern city of Xuzhou has ordered 24 six-carriage train sets, in a deal worth ¥760 million. The trains shall be delivered in 2020 in time for use on Line 2, while the city’s debut, Line 1, is expected to enter operation before the end of this year.
CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Rail Transport is one of the major production bases of the CRRC Corporation, the world’s largest supplier of rail transit equipment, formed in 2015 in a merger between CNR and CSR. The Pukou-based factory is one of Nanjing’s largest buildings by land area.
