Representatives of the culture and creative industries from all over Jiangsu Province converged in Nanjing Tuesday for the opening of the 3 month long Jiangsu Cultural and Creative Achievement Exhibition.

An initiative of the Jiangsu Cultural Industry Association, the exhibition is the first high level event held that brings together many of the Association’s members to showcase the breadth and depth of creative culture in Jiangsu.

Formed in July of last year, the Association aims to act as a forum that unites organisations in cultural and creative fields from all over Jiangsu Province.

Timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the exhibition host, the 1865 Creativity, Science, Technology & Design Park, the exhibition serves as an excellent reminder that this part of China is about a lot more than the economic development so often lauded and pushed to the forefront of public consciousness.

Earthenware, clay figurines, the ubiquitous Nanjing cloud brocade, various woodwind musical instruments, decorative eggs, jade, clothing and boat building are all joined by contemporary items, including watches, headphones, jewelry, plus silk-embroidered smartphone, tablet and laptop covers that together show just how prolific and important a part is increasingly played by Jiangsu in contributing to Chinese culture as a whole.

During the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Jiangsu Cultural Industry Association, Ma Ning, said that the industry had, “for 3 consecutive years ranked at the forefront of the country”.

He further went on to propose that, “While the cultural industry shows [good] results, it should also to promote the mainstream image of Jiangsu, with a responsibility to talk about taste, style, etc.”

The opening ceremony was also utilised as an opportunity to launch three media platforms with the aim of promoting Jiangsu culture, designed by SinoConnexion that is also responsible for this very website.

The Jiangsu Cultural and Creative Achievement Exhibition is free and runs until December in area C4 of 1865.
