Construction is proceeding full steam ahead on what shall be Asia’s largest single building that is Golden Eagle Square Plaza in Nanjing’s Hexi area.

The behemoth construct, which needless to say is hard to miss, lies directly northeast of the intersection of Yingtian Da Jie and Jiangdong Zhong Lu. It is also the latest project to carry the prestigious name of Golden Eagle, marking a welcome return for the high-end luxury shopping experience brand to its home town.

The tri-tower complex that shall sit upon a white-clad podium which forms the base shall be home to restaurants, entertainment and retail space in addition to that offered by its namesake. The towers rising from it shall host a five star hotel plus office and residential space, while Tiandi Tower A,the tallest of the three that each flare outward from their base, shall be 368 metres in height, with 76 floors above ground.

One of the development’s most notable features shall be a rooftop garden lounge, located in what is being referred to as a “traversable multi-story linkage”; we can simply call it a “bridge”, between each of the three towers. Through such a construct, it shall be possible to utilise the services of all three towers without having to journey via the podium in the base of the complex.

Golden Eagle is one of Nanjing’s biggest success stories. Opening its first store in 1996 in Xinjiekou, the group now operates 28 self-owned stores in cities across the Yangtze River Delta. With its head offices in Hong Kong, the group is incorporated in the Cayman Islands.

Affiliated to Shanghai Xiandai Architectural Design Group, the Architect of Record for the complex is the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute (ECADI), one of China’s most influential architectural design institutions. The firm is responsible for over 130 proposed and completed tall building projects in China; they are the same people who brought us Nanjing’s tallest building, the Zifeng Tower, as well as other regional iconic landmarks such as Plaza 66 in Shanghai and the more recently completed Shanghai World Financial Centre.
