Weekend brunchers beware, Nanjing’s line up of top-notch hoteliers is set to be boosted significantly in the next few years, by as much as almost 10,000 rooms, making us spoiled for choice when it comes to those all-you-can-eat buffet options.

The fact remains, however, there have been rumors of a flurry of hotel openings in Nanjing for the past 5 to 10 years. Plans for a Hyatt operated by Suning were announced as long ago as 2010, as this publication reported at the time. Now, it’s all truly going to happen.

Some 46 separate hotel projects are now on the way, comprising a total of 9,532 rooms.

All the projects referenced are either four or five star; at 21 and 25 hotels, respectively, according to Tophotel.news, researching the Top Hotel Projects construction database.

The last quarter of this year alone shall see five hotels open, of which two are presently in their pre-opening phases.

If all goes to plan, these shall be followed by 21 properties opening their doors in 2021, a further 11 in 2022 and the remainder in the following 2 years.

Among the highlights, global hotel giant Marriot is out in front, with a total of six projects ongoing in Nanjing at present. Two such properties shall be located in the soon-to-be-opened Garden Expo in Nanjing’s Hexi area, namely the Nanjing Westin Hotel Garden Expo and the Autograph Collection Nanjing Garden Expo that we can both expect to welcome their first guests by next summer.

Then there will be the JW Marriot Nanjing, in a 400 meter-tall building next to the city’s Olympic Centre, making it the then-third tallest building in Nanjing when it opens in early 2022.

Around the same time, expect a delightfully-warm welcome at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Nanjing, situated near Zhonghua Men along the Qinhuai River. The Hong-Kong based group is renowned as creator of some of the world’s most sought-after properties.

Date lines may still come and go, but with all these new hotels on the horizon, it’s our future belt lines that we may better be concerned over.
