Tomorrow, 16 May, sees two fun runs take place at Yangshan Park in Qixia District’s Xianlin area, which the organiser hopes can be a reason for the local foreign community to come back together again, amid the recovery of China while divisions remain elsewhere.
The Yangshan Park Run takes place as its name suggests, among the sprawling green of Yangshan Park, situated near Yangshanhu Metro Station. The station serves as the pre-race meeting point where runners should gather tomorrow morning at 8.30.
At this point in time, last minute registrations for the run are welcome, although those who do not register until tomorrow morning may not receive a finish time. Additional volunteer marshalls are also always good to have on hand. Scan the QR code at the end of this article to join the “Yangshan Park Run” WeChat group and register for the race or show your interest in being a marshall.

The two runs are the longer 5km version that takes in both Yangshan Lake and the adjacent hill, while the 2 km version is essentially a run around the lake.
After the meet at the metro station, there shall be a warm up walk/jog along Xianjing Lu to the start, where a runner briefing shall take place at 8:45, before the race start at 8:50. The race finishes at approximately 10:30 am.
Would be runners are advised that a small part of the park is still under construction; exercise caution around construction activities and path-upgrading works.

Further important advice is to observe social distancing guidance and wear masks during travel to and from the event, especially if taking public transport. Masks must not be worn while running.
Organiser, Zhang Yi, spoke with The Nanjinger as to the hastily arranged runs, saying, “I am trying to keep this low profile because I want to have this before the weather is getting too warm. Applying for permit and sponsorships from local authorities would take too long”.
A keen distance runner, with a few marathons and ultra marathons under his belt, Zhang further said that his intention behind organising the activity was to bring the local foreign community back together after the long “winter” hibernation due to Covid-19. “It’s a fun, family oriented event”, he added.
