Canadian news has revealed a number of people from a Jiangsu tour group have been injured and at least one has died in a bus accident that occurred at 14:37 on 4 June, 2018.

According to various reports, the tour group was attached to Beijing’s Chengxin Travel Agency, which had organised the trip for a total of 37 tourists. The group had been travelling en route to Toronto from Ottawa. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

24 people were hospitalised after the bus was turned upside down off the highway. The group had been on a 10-day tour of Canada when it crashed on highway 401. The New York Times reported the vehicle veered off the highway and smashed into a rock embankment.

The accident comes just 3 months after the country suffered 15 dead in a bus crash. A hockey team had been travelling across the Tisdale area of remote Saskatchewan province when the bus collided with a truck.

Chinese diplomats in Canada have “made clear that the travel agency involved should shoulder its responsibility and properly take care of such matters as medical treatment and compensation for the Chinese tourists,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a press conference Tuesday, a transcript of which was posted to the embassy’s website”, reported CTV News.
