This day, 6 June, in 1949, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Nanjing Municipal Government Huang Hua was ordered to meet with Ambassador Marshall J. Leighton Stuart in a private capacity. Stuart indicated the US was willing to establish a relationship with the new China, saying, “The fact that the American envoys are still staying in Nanjing shows the attitude of the US towards the Kuomintang”.
