This day, 4 January, in 1969, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination came in to effect. The Convention remains the principal international human-rights instrument defining and prohibiting racial discrimination in all sectors of private and public life. China went on to adopt its decision to join the Convention on 26 November, 1981.
