This day, 3 March, in 1990, the 6,021-kilometre “International Trans-Antarctic Expedition” completed the first crossing of the Antarctic continent on foot in human history. Composed of one person from each of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the China representative was Qin Dahe, an associate researcher at the Lanzhou Institute of Glaciation and Permafrost.
