This day, 28 June, in 1954, the “Joint Statement of the Prime Ministers of China and India” was issued, with China and Myanmar following like for like the next day. The prime ministers of all three countries reiterated the “Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence” and made it clear that, “If these principles apply also to general international relations, current fears and doubts will be replaced by a sense of trust”.
