On this Day in Chinese History; 25 February

This day, 25 February, 1989, Deng Xiaoping met with US President George H. W. Bush. During the meeting, Deng in part said, “The United States has 1 or 2 hundred years of experience in holding elections. If we hold an election with one billion people now, the same chaotic situation seen during the Cultural Revolution will definitely occur. Democracy is our goal, but the country must remain stable.
