This day, 23 June, in 1992, international trains started running between Urumqi and Almaty, marking the opening of road, air and rail transport between China and the Republic of Kazakhstan. Cutting the ribbon, Chinese Vice Premier Wu Xueqian said that the Urumqi-Almaty Railway is a bond of friendship between the peoples of China and Kazakhstan, and the peoples of all Eurasian countries.
